The story of The Lazy Dog began with Milo.
Milo was a golden retriever and the original Lazy Dog, the one our logo was based on. He helped give this place its name and became part of its identity before many of our guests ever walked through the door.
After Milo came Whiskey, another golden retriever who was with us for 11 years. Whiskey carried on that familiar presence, quietly becoming part of the property's daily life and the memories of many guests.
Then Chili joined him.

Chili did not begin the story of The Lazy Dog, but she became an important part of it.
For 12 years, she was woven into the everyday rhythm of our home. She was there through busy breakfasts, slow afternoons, rainy days, late dinners, and the many people who came and went through our doors.
She was sweet, charming, and wonderfully laid-back.
Chili never needed to ask for attention. She preferred to stay near the dining lounge, observing everything from a comfortable distance. She had the quiet confidence of someone who knew exactly where she belonged.
We often called her our queen.

She could be warm and welcoming, but she also had her own moods. Sometimes she would greet guests. Sometimes she preferred to be left alone. Treats, of course, could quickly change her mind.
Guests remembered her not because she performed for them, but because she was simply there.
One guest recalled Whiskey and Chili joining them during breakfast and how their presence made The Lazy Dog feel more like home. It was a small moment, but it captured what both of them brought to this place.
They made it feel lived in.
They reminded people that they were not staying in an anonymous hotel. They were entering a home shared by people, dogs, cats, and all the little routines that make a place feel real.
Chili was especially fond of spending her evenings near the guests. As conversations continued over dinner or drinks, she would settle nearby, calm and content to be part of it all.

She became part of people’s Boracay memories without ever trying.
That quiet presence reflected something important about The Lazy Dog. Hospitality is not always about doing more or filling every silence. Sometimes it is about allowing people to relax, giving them space, and offering the comfort of knowing someone is nearby.
Chili understood that naturally.
She was also Miel’s mother.
Miel has her own personality and her own way of entertaining guests, but there are moments when we still catch glimpses of Chili in her. It may be a certain expression, the way she settles into a familiar spot, or the quiet confidence with which she moves around the property.
Through Miel, a little part of Chili remains present in the daily life of The Lazy Dog.
Since saying goodbye to her, the property feels different. Her usual places are quieter. There is one less familiar face near the lounge and one less set of paws moving through the garden.
But Chili remains part of our home.
She lives in photographs, in the stories told by our staff, and in the memories of guests who met her over the years. She also remains part of the ongoing story that began with Milo, continued through Whiskey, and now continues with Miel.

Each of them has shaped The Lazy Dog differently.
Milo gave us our name and our symbol.
Whiskey became a loyal companion for 11 years.
Chili brought her sweetness, calm, and quiet charm.
And Miel now carries the family story forward.
Thank you, Chili, for all the ordinary days you made warmer.
Thank you for staying close to our guests, for keeping watch over the lounge and for becoming part of so many people’s memories of Boracay.
You were never simply a dog who lived here.
You were family, and you helped make this place feel like home.
Rest well, Chili.
Your place in the story of The Lazy Dog will always remain.
